Jerry Jones Gives 1-Words Response When Asked About the Deadline for CeeDee Lamb’s Contract with the Cowboys.

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, said that CeeDee Lamb’s new contract has “zero” target date. Regarding CeeDee Lamb’s contract, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, keeps preaching the same line: there’s no rush.

There is “zero” target date for Lamb’s new contract, according to Jones, who talked with 105.3 The Fan just before the Cowboys’ second preseason game against the Los Vegas Raiders. In an effort to get a new contract, the 25-year-old receiver is still not showing up for training camp.

“Jerry Jones gave @1053thefan @KristiCowboy a deadline of ‘zero’ to finish CeeDee Lamb. “I don’t care about the deadlines,” Watkins wrote on Saturday, August 17. Before the preseason opener, Jerry Jones sent CeeDee Lamb a similar message.

The similar message was spread a week earlier when Jones made headlines a few days before the Cowboys’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams by declaring that there is no “urgency” to close the trade for Dallas’ best wide out.

“I don’t have any urgency to get it done,” Jones said on Aug. 8.

Jones made an effort to soften his remarks regarding Lamb and his possible new contract just before the Cowboys’ game against the Rams. On August 11, Jones remarked, “I think I got in trouble the other day when I said, ‘Look, we’re not urgent about CeeDee.’”

“Well, nobody values CeeDee’s presence on the field more than I do. However, allow me to say this: If he had been here for [training camp], he wouldn’t be snapping out of it today.

“When you identify important players, you need to apply judgment. This allows the younger players an opportunity to try it out. We are fully aware of CeeDee’s abilities, and he has practiced with Dak. Thus, he wouldn’t be present here. Really, it is unrelated to his contract in any way.

Cowboys Offer CeeDee Lamb $33 Million Per Year Deal: Report

While both sides are still negotiating, Jones maintains that there is no pressing need to reach an agreement with Lamb because the Dallas Cowboys don’t play until September 8 to begin the regular season.

Nevertheless, the team has made an effort to reach an agreement with their three-time Pro Bowl receiver. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Cowboys just extended their contract offer to Lamb, offering $33 million annually.

Clearly, that is less than the $35 million annual contract Justin Jefferson inked with the Minnesota Vikings. It seems like Lamb is hoping to equal or even exceed Jefferson’s record-breaking agreement.

It’s clear that both parties are playing hardball, with Jones attempting to minimize the importance of closing a deal with Lamb because it’s only the preseason. But as the season draws closer, Dallas will feel more pressure to close a deal on Lamb.

Lamb’s significance to the Cowboys, a playoff and likely Super Bowl contender, is enormous given that they only have one established experienced receiver in Brandin Cooks and have been starting the unknown Jalen Tolbert.
