Record-setting field goal from Brandon Aubrey, but with a disclaimer

Despite being a record-tying kick, Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey made some NFL history on Saturday, but not many will recall it.

Shortly before the break in Saturday’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Aubrey made a 66-yard field goal. With a 66-yard field goal of his own, Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens owns the NFL record for the longest field goal.

Sadly, Aubrey’s kick will not go down in history because this was a preseason game.

Sadly, Aubrey’s kick will not go down in history because this was a preseason game.

At least now Aubrey understands what it is like. Kicking someone who is pure feels, in his words, like there is nothing there.

According to Aubrey, “You can feel it off your foot,” via Nick Harris of the team’s official website. It has the impression of being weightless and devoid of resistance. It launches from your foot. It hovers above your foot for around thirty seconds before taking off.

The fact that Aubrey and the Cowboys both know he can truly make a kick from that distance might be the most crucial thing. They should be very happy about that, given how horrible their kicking condition was not so long ago.
