After spinning off on Sunday, Denny Hamlin lost his opportunity to win the first stage of the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
With eight laps remaining in the stage, Hamlin was trying to pass Bubba Wallace for first place on lap 38 out of 200. An air problem caused him to lose control as he slipped up the track around turn 4.

The caution flag was raised when Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 11 Toyota Camry skidded into the infield. Even though Hamlin dropped in the standings, he was still in 17th place when the race was called off due to rain on Monday. Wallace was third and Chase Elliott was leading when the race was called off.
