Transfer expert says Man City ‘can’t believe’ the signing they’re about to make
In recent years, a case can be made that Manchester City are one of, if not the most meticulous club in the transfer market.
As a result, it is always interesting to gauge City’s rationale when signing any player in the transfer window.
So far, Pep Guardiola’s side have only signed Savinho from ESTAC Troyes this summer and based on his latest start in their 2-0 win against Chelsea, he looks like a top player in the making.
Unlike several other elite clubs, the Premier League winners seem to have a clear idea on the exact profile of player they need to sign.
The latest news surrounding the club’s transfer activity has been revealed by Fabrizio Romano, who has claimed that City have agreed a deal to sign Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Manchester City expected to sign Gundogan by the time they face Ipswich Town on Saturday.

How Manchester City feel about potential Ilkay Gundogan return
Throughout the summer, the Sky Blues have been linked with moves for a plethora of midfielders such as Bruno Guimaraes and Joshua Kimmich.
A little over two weeks, Guimaraes committed his future to Newcastle United publicly; confirming he does not desire an exit from St. James’ Park this summer.
While it was reported a few weeks ago that there is a possibility that Kimmich could sign a contract extension beyond 2025 at Bayern Munich.
As Pep Guardiola’s side seem to have finally signed their man in Gundogan, Manchester City News caught up with transfer expert Graeme Bailey to enquire about how the club feels about his reported return.
“City really can’t believe the deal is happening, they are massively excited. It’s a case of a player being in the right place, at the right time. They still think he’s great professional with a lot to offer.”
Unsurprising to hear Man City are excited about Gundogan return
Considering Gundogan is coming off the back of an impressive campaign at Barcelona and also looked like one of Germany’s best players at Euro 2024, Manchester City’s excitement is understandable.
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder knows the club inside and out and most importantly, unlike any of their current midfielders, he can play across every role in midfield.
With Gundogan’s connection with several of Manchester City’s current batch of players, both on and off the pitch as well, his potential addition would only strengthen the team as a whole.
With the German starting 27 Premier League games for the English giants during his final season at the club, Pep Guardiola would perhaps be willing to hand him a major role in midfield once again if the move is confirmed.
