On August 25, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler provided some disheartening injury news about the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to a source, “Steelers offensive lineman Dylan Cook [is] expected to miss several weeks with a foot injury,” Fowler reported.

“Pittsburgh [is] already beaten up across the offensive line, [and] now lose Cook, a crucial reserve,” the statement continued. Cook was among the Steelers’ more adaptable offensive linemen on the 90-man roster. Pro Football Focus reports that he usually lined up at left tackle throughout the preseason, though he has also dressed up at right tackle and left guard in the past.

With Cook now potentially beginning the season on the injured reserve — or being waived due to injury — Steelers Depot analyst Alex Kozora predicted nine offensive linemen would make the initial 53 in Pittsburgh. Those players were Dan Moore Jr., Isaac Seumalo, Zach Frazier, James Daniels, Troy Fautanu, Broderick Jones, Spencer Anderson, Mason McCormick and Ryan McCollum.

Of those nine, Moore, Fautanu and Jones should be the main three at offensive tackle, assuming they can remain healthy. The 2024 first-round selection (Fautanu) is currently recovering from an MCL sprain. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo have both expressed concern over the likelihood of his Week 1 availability.

To exacerbate the situation, Jones has sustained injuries during camp as well. As reported by Steelers Now beat reporter Alan Saunders, he has been sporting a “right elbow” brace lately.

The interior offensive lineman on the 53 would then be Seumalo, Frazier, Daniels, McCormick, and McCollum, with Anderson emerging as a key reserve who can play tackle and guard for the Steelers.

The Steelers announced that WR T.J. Luther was cut early. On August 25, Pittsburgh Steelers “released” quick wide receiver T.J. Luther, a second-year player, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2.
