Micah Parsons did not participate in off-season exercises, but he did not take long to become acquainted with Mike Zimmer, the new defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, after joining the team before to training camp.

After spending a few months getting to know one another, the Cowboys’ top edge rusher has nothing but positive things to say about his new defensive coordinator.

Earlier in training camp, Parsons shared his joy about playing for Zimmer and disclosed a regular ritual of connecting.

Parsons kept praising Zimmer and issued a challenge to Cowboys supporters on the return of his show, The Edge at Bleacher Report. Parsons proceeded to express his belief that the Cowboys defense is poised for a “special” season.

Cowboys Nation, don’t give up on us. We’re in for a fantastic year. Here’s Mike Zimmer. Parsons, according to RJ Ochoa of Blogging the Boys, “is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever been around. He’s going to be a great addition to this defense.”

“It’s really clear how this guy wants things done… I’m happy I have this year to spend with him. I hope he’s here next year… this could be a really special year and I can’t wait for you guys to witness this.”

After a stellar showing in the NFL preseason, the team’s defensive unit has been full of hope, and Parsons’ remarks have only increased the fervor.

Under former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Parsons was a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, and under Zimmer, he wants to step it up.

Parsons had a career-high 14 sacks, 33 quarterback hits, 18 tackles for a loss, and 64 total tackles during the previous campaign. In each of his three seasons, the former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year has been named an All-Pro.
