Now that the 49ers have signed wide receiver Brandon Ayuk and tackle Trent Williams, the next player to extend his contract is quarterback Brock Purdy. Of course, Purdy, a 2022 draft pick, is not eligible to sign a second contract in San Francisco until after the 2024 season. But unless something completely unexpected happens, there’s no question the 49ers will be looking to make a big impression on Purdy in the 2025 season. Speaking to the media after returning to the team on Tuesday, Williams said he was excited to help Purdy get what he got.
“I want everyone on my team to get paid. I want them to get every cent they deserve,” Williams said at a press conference. “Mr. Brock, obviously that contract has expired. I would be very happy to see that and not only would I be very happy because he deserves it. “If there’s a great American story to be found in the NFL, it’s what no one thought they would do. When you pick the last player in the first round, he still doesn’t look good, and you might look at him and think, “That guy’s not the best.” I think his game speaks for itself.”
Purdy helped the 49ers to an NFC championship as a rookie and cemented his status as the team’s starter in 2023, leading the club to a division title and first place in the NFC. He completed 69 percent of his passes for 4,280 yards with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He led the league with 9.6 yards per attempt, 13.9 yards per completion and a 113.0 passer rating.“So [I’m] proud of him. “I love this kid to death,” Williams said. “He deserves every dollar he gets. Yes, I want to be a part of helping him get what he deserves.”
