Dak Prescott, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, has signed a four-year, $240 million contract, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history.
The deal was announced just hours before the Cowboys’ season opener against the Cleveland Browns, with $80 million as a signing bonus and $231 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
This contract extension keeps Prescott in Dallas through 2028 and follows a similar four-year, $136 million deal given to star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Prescott’s new deal surpasses the annual salaries of players like Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love, and Joe Burrow, cementing his place as the highest-paid player in the league.
Prescott had an impressive season last year, leading the NFL’s top-scoring offense with 36 touchdown passes and finishing second in MVP voting. Despite their success, the Cowboys are still chasing their first Super Bowl appearance since winning Super Bowl XXX in 1995.
This marks Prescott’s second extension since joining the Cowboys, following a four-year, $160 million deal in 2021. The new contract eliminates any chance of the 2016 fourth-round pick hitting free agency next year.
