Kyle Larson Will Again Attempt To Run The Double…

Kyle Larson Making Another Run At Indy 500 And Coke 600 Double In 2025

Kyle Larson will again attempt to run The Double — the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 the same day — next May 2025. Kyle Larson’s prospects at running the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double next May is no longer speculation.

The 32-year-old superstar, along with Hendrick Motorsports and Arrow McLaren Racing, announced Tuesday afternoon at the Charlotte Motor Speedway that he’s indeed taking another run at the 1,100-mile feat — the Indy 500 and Coke 600 in the same day — next May 25.

For those who recall, Larson made his Indy 500 debut and earned the event’s Rookie of the Year honors this past May, but it didn’t come without a four-hour rain delay that prompted Larson and the Hendrick team to stay in Indianapolis that ultimately forced them to miss the eventually rain-shortened Coke 600.

“We have some unfinished business to try and win the Indy 500,” Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, said to opening Tuesday’s press conference. “And, of course, (win) the NASCAR race a couple hours later to be partnering with Mr. H and Hendrick Motorsports, being sponsored by Hendrickcars.com and working very closely with legendary Jeff Gordon and, of course, having a current legend in our race car.”

Once Larson completed his 18th-place finish that was not indicative of his overall performance, he jetted to the 1.5-mile Concord, N.C., oval for NASCAR’s longest race, but by the time he arrived, the Coke 600 was in a rain delay and never restarted.

Because Larson-never turned a lap and didn’t receive points for the Coke 600, he needed to sit through a tedious waiver process from NASCAR to become eligible for its playoffs.

“I would say my goals are to complete all 1,100 miles and get to do both,” Larson said when asked about his goals for 2025’s attempt at The Double. “That was a really important thing for me, to get to do both races.

And we didn’t get that chance this year unfortunately due to weather. “Like (Zach) said, it’s kind of like unfinished business, and yes, I’d really like to have the opportunity to do what other people have done to do The Double.”

“I’m just so grateful for this opportunity. Thanks to Mr. H and everyone at Arrow McLaren for doing this for me and trying to make another dream come true and doing The Double .Doing the Indy 500 “It was great. This is the last year, but for me it’s about doing 1,110 miles.”

Hendrick said the support for Larson’s doubles last year was “more than we expected, the response.”

“At Hendrick Cars, we measure the leads and all of the follow-up after the race of (what goes into) doing the race,” Hendrick said. “And even before the race, in practice, it was blowing up our internet.

It worked out really well for Hendrick Cars and it was a real honor to be at Indianapolis. I think (in 2025) I won’t be quite as nervous as I was last year walking in.”

Hendrick said that Larson will prioritize the Coke 600 in his 2025 attempt at The Double — “We will be here for the 600,” he emphasized — even “if that means having to cut the race short at Indy, we will.”

“My commitment to NASCAR is we’re in NASCAR,” Hendric said. “That’s where we run for the championship. So, if weather catches us, Tony (Kanaan) will get in the car.”
