Following the revelation that David Njoku would probably miss several games due to an ankle injury, the Cleveland Browns signed a new tight end to their roster.

Cleveland brought on a 10-year veteran

David Njoku is expected to miss several games due to a high ankle sprain.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Njoku’s ankle injury sustained during the Browns’ season opener against the Cowboys would likely cause him to miss a number of games.

The injury, which did not seem good as he walked off in a right walking boot on Sunday night, is anticipated to keep him out of the lineup for at least a few games, according to Cabot.

According to the Browns’ depth chart, Jordan Akins is the second-string tight end and will likely be the man up in Njoku’s place. Akins joined the team in 2023 and participated in all 18 games of the regular season. In Cleveland, he had 18 catches for 159 yards.

tense conclusions As of last week, Blake Whiteheart and Cameron Latu were both members of the Browns’ practice squad, per a Yahoo Sports report.

Before the end of the week, one of Swaim, Whiteheart, or Latu—or possibly two of the three—will be activated to the active roster. They will play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Florida on Sunday.

The Browns need to step up their passing game quickly or look for quarterback Deshaun Watson’s replacement.

The fact that the Browns offense struggled mightily against Dallas on Sunday, particularly due to quarterback Deshaun Watson’s continued below-average play, makes Njoku’s loss much more significant.

With just his 13th start for the team since joining Cleveland in March 2022, Watson passed for 169 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL quarterback and current analyst, recommended after the game that the Browns give switching to backup Jameis Winston a serious thought as soon as this week.

“Cleveland has a quarterback problem,” Orlovsky stated on Monday’s ESPN “Get Up” program. And if I were [head coach] Kevin Stefanski, I would be seriously considering moving Jameis Winston to quarterback in the starting lineup.

Over the course of his nine-year professional career, Winston, the top overall choice in 2015, has amassed over 22,000 throwing yards, 141 touchdowns, and 99 interceptions.
