The Detroit Lions’ offense had its struggles against the Los Angeles Rams, and Jared Goff owned up to his share of the blame.

For much of their 26-20 overtime victory over the Rams in Week 1, the Lions’ offense didn’t resemble the high-powered unit it’s known to be, managing only 363 total net yards.

Goff passed for just 217 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, narrowly avoiding a second pick.

It was a tough night for the Lions’ offense overall, and Goff acknowledged his part in the performance.

“I think we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot,” Goff said. “Offensively, we missed some plays, and I need to be better with the cadence and smoother with operations. That alone would fix many of our issues. It wasn’t our best, but a win is a win, and we’ll take it.”

Goff is pleased with the win but knows the Week 1 performance won’t suffice in the future.

“There were things below our standard, and some of the operational aspects are on me,” he admitted. “It was good enough for a win, but not up to our standard.”

Goff is encouraged by the Lions’ resilience

Ultimately, the Lions secured the win despite inconsistent play. Their ability to stay united and rally was commendable.

Goff values winning a game they didn’t dominate.

“It shows we didn’t play our best but still won. There are many things to clean up and improve,” he noted. “It feels like Week 1 last year, making mistakes but still getting the win. To win in overtime is special, and months from now, we’ll appreciate this win.”

If the Lions and Rams meet again in the playoffs, the Lions will be glad to have this early win, even as Goff recognizes the need for improvement.
