NASCAR Euro Driver Announces Emotional Retirement after 27 years in the field

NASCAR Euro Driver Announces Emotional Retirement after 27 years Due to Health Concerns

Sven van Laere, a well-known competitor in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, has announced his immediate retirement from racing for medical reasons. In an emotional message posted on social media, van Laere expressed his deep sorrow at stepping away from the sport he has dedicated 27 years to.

“With a heavy heart, I must announce the end of my active motorsport career due to medical reasons. Being part of the motorsport world for more than 27 years has been an absolute honor and pleasure.”

Van Laere reflected on his career as a gentleman driver, highlighting the privilege of racing alongside some of the best drivers in the sport’s history. “I had the chance to compete against incredible talents—those who have made a name for themselves in the past, are doing so now, and will in the future.”

He also shared memories of racing with some of EuroNASCAR’s standout figures, such as Marc Goossens, Gianmarco Ercoli, Lucas Lasserre, Max Lanza, and Michael Bleekemolen.

“Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to race in many prestigious championships. But none stand out like the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, run by the Galpin family—it’s more than just a championship.”

Van Laere expressed particular fondness for his team, CAAL Racing, with whom he raced for the past two seasons. “The memories we made will always bring a smile to my face. Grazie mille to my Italian motorsports family!”

Though leaving the track, van Laere’s motorsport legacy continues through his son, Maxim, who is entering the world of karting. Maxim will carry on the family tradition, proudly representing the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series colors.

“I’ll be watching from the sidelines, enjoying the races in a different way,” van Laere concluded. The series bids farewell to a beloved driver, known for both his talent and sportsmanship.
