We saw five previously winless teams advance, while others faltered when it came down to it. There’s still a lot of work to do early in the season, but come Week 4, many players and coaches will be disappointed. Here are the top scores from last week in the National Football League. In three weeks, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs look like the teams to beat in the NFL. Both remain undefeated and showed why they are Super Bowl contenders this year. For the Chiefs, they have three wins against teams that qualified as contenders in the preseason: the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons. Their explosive offense was lacking at times, but their scrappy defense kept opposing offenses in check.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has made an uncharacteristic mistake in three games, but he’s been able to create moments of magic when his team needed it most. “We didn’t play well, I mean all three games,” Mahomes said after Kansas City’s win over the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday. “We managed to win and that says something about the character of the team, the determination and how we got into these situations. “But I would blame myself. I feel like I didn’t play very well. This is not a statistic. I feel like I’m missing an opportunity if I don’t put the ball where I want it. So we have to go back to the basics, get our guys in the right positions and then play aggressively at a high level.”
The Bills, on the other hand, entered 2024 with questions about the direction of the organization after a tumultuous offseason. But three impressive wins, including over the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars, eased some of those fears as quarterback Josh Allen turned in an inspired performance. Buffalo has scored 112 points this season, the most in the NFL so far, and that’s despite the Bills playing three straight tough games against the Ravens, Houston Texans and New York Jets (Allen and Co.). It’s a great platform to continue the good start to the season. The Chiefs and Bills have had some memorable playoff matchups in recent years, with Allen and Mahomes facing off multiple times in the AFC postseason, and we can look forward to another matchup if Buffalo and Kansas City keep up their current pace.
