Recently, Rodney Childers responded to the news that Front Row Motorsports would be entering the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series with the No. 4 Ford. The former driver of Josh Berry’s No. 4 car for the now-defunct Stewart-Haas Racing was the Cup Series-winning crew chief. Childers joined Spire Motorsports to serve as the pit box driver for the No. 7 Chevrolet, which will be driven by Justin Haley in the 2018 season, following a remarkable career with SHR’s No. 4 Ford vehicle in the Cup Series. But the veteran crew chief had no intention of watching the No. 4 car run the field under a different banner.
Childers recently commented on X: “It will be really strange for me to see the #4 on track this year. However, I’m ecstatic for @NoahGragson and @drewblick. They’ll accomplish amazing things. Noah Gragson, a former SHR driver who will be rejoining his former SHR crew chief on the Ford roster, will be driving the new FRM entry. Conversely, Josh Berry’s former crew chief Rodney Childers will be paired with a 25-year-old Winamac, Indiana native.
Rodney Childers discusses his collaboration with Spire Motorsports’ Justin Haley
The 2014 champion crew chief gave his opinion on joining the Chevrolet lineup with the No. 7 Spire Motorsports squad back in September 2024.
Rodney Childers discussed driver Justin Haley with well-known journalist Matt Weaver, saying: “All I know is all the good things people say about him (Justin), and just what I’ve seen from being around him in the garage.” I simply see that he is a decent man with solid morals, and that is really significant to me at this stage of my career. Childers went on to say: “I hope I live up to the many people in this garage who have faith in his abilities. Going over there will be enjoyable for me at this stage of my career since I believe it will revitalize me. I need to be in a setting that will push me.
Prior to making an unorthodox move with former Spire driver Corey LaJoie, Justin Haley spent the majority of the previous season racing for Rick Ware Racing. Haley was revealed by Spire as their next full-time driver in the No. 7 entry at the end of the season. In the 2025 Cup Series season, he will be driven alongside seasoned driver Michael McDowell and Carson Hocevar.
