East Avenue, a Godolphin homebred, won his debut for trainer Brendan Walsh in August before leading gate to wire to win the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity in October. As the 9-5 favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, he slipped poorly at the start and could not recover. On Sunday evening, Las Vegas futures listed East Avenue at 28-1 for the Kentucky Derby.
