It was great to catch some sunshine and recharge my batteries after spending a pleasant few days in Tenerife with Leanne. Although they tell me it is much milder than it was while we were away, it was back to earth with a thud on Sunday evening, when the temperature was considerably lower back home! We only had one runner, Saccary, and it turned out that Taunton was the only jumps team that made it through the rain last week. He jumped adequately on his first attempt at hurdling, and he will get better for the experience.
On Sunday, we did have a winner in Wadebridge point-to-point. Down there, we brought three horses, and the day became off to a good start with Fighter Allen winning the novice riders conditions race with Rian Corcoran on board. He finished runner up at the track on his British pointing debut in December and reversed the placings with the winner that day this time around. Both Fighter Allen and The King’s Writ were quite highly rated under rules and the pair pulled clear.
Our ten-year-old put on a strong show under the guidance of young Rian, and he is now back to loving racing. He is for sale if anyone would like to purchase him; we will be searching for hunter hunts for him in the future, along with a return to rules action. Celestial Gold, a past Hennessy winner, began his career at Wadebridge.
It’s a unique course that may not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s a lovely little track, and it’s good that we can support the West Country point to point. The racing and point-to-point bug was caught by my son Jack and his pal Oscar. They had a great day assisting, guiding, and especially collecting the prizes with the cup now being proudly on display in Jack’s bedroom!
With the frost lingering in the ground, there is some uncertainty about Tuesday and Wednesday’s jumping matches proceeding, but the weather is supposed to improve this week and not be as cold, so hopefully we have a complete schedule. Jurancon (in case Plumpton is abandoned) and Lady Balko are our two runners at Newbury on Wednesday; however, the track needs to pass inspection on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Although Hereford’s current description is defined as frozen in places and monitoring, no inspections are anticipated at this time, so it won’t be shocking if one is called at some point. It was declared that activists would run here. We have runners in Wincanton on Thursday, and King Turgeon will probably be among them in the Somerset National.
We have runners in Wincanton on Thursday, and King Turgeon is probably going to be among them in the Somerset National. It will be good to get him back on track because he is playing well at home. Although it appears to be a wonderful opportunity for him, he will need to improve once more to achieve a career high mark. We have entries at Windsor and Market Rasen on Friday, and Ascot, Haydock, Taunton, Fakenham, and Windsor over the weekend. Remastered will probably take his opportunity in the rescheduled Veterans Chase at Market Rasen on Friday, but for the most up-to-date information, keep watching the website’s Daily News.
