The 2021 Cup Series champion became a three-time champion in the yearly event on the midget car racing schedule, tying Christopher Bell. Larson then made contact with the wall, so this wasn’t the only incident that happened to him during the race. Fortunately, an unrelated dislodged banner prompted the NASCAR champion to be given a caution flag, allowing him to stay ahead of the pack. Following the race, Larson remarked, “I made a mistake on the frontstretch and was kind of up on top of the wall and it shot me off of it.” “I assumed I would flip like I did the year before. Although I was unaware of it at the time, it had it had ripped the banner down.
They threw the caution for me, I thought. “Before I got back around to the other side I was like, ‘Man, I don’t know how they’re going to score this.'”If they were going to blame me for the warning, would I face consequences or anything? However, when I noticed the banner lying there, I thought, “Okay, that’s good.” Perhaps I’ll hold onto my position. Larson talked about the difficult conditions out on the track and celebrated his third victory in spite of these mishaps. He went on to say, “All three (Chili Bowl victories) are different.” “I feel like I needed to overcome the first one mentally in order to finally win here. The next year was significant because we didn’t have the best car that race but we played defense really well. “Tonight, the track was challenging to make a lap by yourself, so when you can win a 40-lap race on a track that challenging, it’s pretty cool.”
