The family of Truex Sr., including sons Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Truex, as well as daughter Marsha McVey, issued a statement on Friday announcing the death of the longtime NASCAR Busch North Series racer. On the Busch North circuit, Truex Sr. made 135 appearances before winning his first and only race at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 1994. In the 1990s, Truex Sr. chose to support his son Martin’s racing career rather than continue his own motorsport career.

Ryan also advanced to NASCAR’s national series level, where he won three races in the Xfinity Series, while Truex Jr. went on to win the NASCAR Cup Series title in 2017.
During Truex Jr.’s final race as a full-time competitor, Truex Sr. and his son Martin were pictured together for a family portrait at Phoenix Raceway in November of last year. Truex Jr. will drive his father’s car, number #56, in an effort to qualify for the Daytona 500 the following month. In a joint statement following the NASCAR veteran’s passing, Truex’s family acknowledged his passing and requested privacy at this time. “The loss of our father, Martin Truex Sr., has devastated us.” He was a fantastic man and our idol, to put it simply. We ask for privacy during this time and appreciate everyone’s prayers and thoughts,” the statement said.
