The Los Angeles Rams’ amazing season ended on Sunday when they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional round. The Rams lost to Philadelphia 28–22 in the snow after appearing to be a serious contender against the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round. After the team’s playoff loss, there was a lot of talk about quarterback Matthew Stafford’s possible retirement because he turns 37 in a few weeks. Although the seasoned quarterback has not yet decided what to do with his life, Stafford’s wife, Kelly, posted a touching message on social media. Along with a note from Kelly, the post featured pictures of Stafford and his four daughters. There aren’t enough words to describe my pride. I make a joke about how old and worn out we are but honestly I could never get tired of watching you out there or watching our girls cheer for their daddy.
I wonder whether or not this is the end. “I suppose we’ll find out,” wrote Kelly Stafford. Naturally, Instagram was not used to disclose Stafford’s retirement plans. However, it’s evident from the post that Stafford will have an amazing network of family and support when he’s ready to hang up his pads for good. The Rams came very close to having a Cinderella season. The club got hot at the perfect time, winning five straight games and winning nine of 11 to secure the NFC West despite a poor start and several offensive ailments.
In 2025, will Matthew Stafford rejoin the Rams?
Los Angeles looked like a formidable squad with a genuine chance to win the championship after defeating the 14-3 Vikings 27-9 in the Wild Card round. Sadly, GM Les Snead’s worries about defending running back Saquon Barkley turned out to be accurate as the Rams lost to the Eagles in the Divisional round. With 26 carries for 205 yards and two touchdowns and four receptions for 27 receiving yards, the NFL’s top rusher ran all over Los Angeles. Even with Barkley’s outstanding performance, the Rams persisted, and Stafford gave it his best to help Los Angeles win. The 16-year veteran had no interceptions and threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns. He did, however, turn the ball over as the conditions led to multiple Rams’ fumbles. In the end, LA couldn’t close the gap and the Eagles held on to win by six points.
Stafford has stated that he wants to take some time to consider playing next season and is not yet ready to make a decision regarding his playing future. After the loss to Philadelphia, the Pro Bowl quarterback did give some hope, stating that he believes he still has football left in him. For the Rams, Stafford had another strong season. This season, he threw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, completing about 66 percent of his passes. After Stafford was traded from the Detroit Lions in the 2021 season, the Rams won Super Bowl LVI and advanced to the postseason in three of his four seasons with the team.
