You Ignore All These Warnings: NASCAR’s Greg Biffle Reacts to Shocking DC Plane Crash Tragedy

Jan 31, 2025 #Greg Biffle

Greg Biffle, a former NASCAR driver, offered his thoughts on the 67-person crash that occurred in midair between the US Army Black Hawk helicopter and the American Airlines regional plane. Biffle described the warning system and the reasons why people often “ignore” it. A US Army Black Hawk helicopter was landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, when it collided with an American Airlines regional plane in midair.

Since the inquiry is still ongoing, the primary cause of the collision is yet unknown. The absence of survivors in the incident was previously confirmed. Recently, aviation veteran Greg Biffle talked about the warning system that airplanes have. He asserted that people typically disregard warnings about road collisions when they are in close proximity to landing. He further explained that it is similar to when a person parks their car, ignoring the parking sensor because they get a clear visual of the parking space.

However, there is one aspect of preventing traffic collisions that I overlooked. Greg Biffle stated, “It’s like you almost ignore all these warnings when you’re in close proximity, which doesn’t make any sense.” “But imagine it like this: You’re parking your car and you notice the wall right there while it’s beeping and dinging. I see it. You believe that’s what it’s discussing. Recent sources state that the ‘black box’ was found by the authorities from the chopper and the airliner, which will aid in the incident’s investigation.

Greg Biffle affirms that he will be attending the 2025 Daytona 500 “one way or another

In the 2025 season, NASCAR launched the Open Exemption Provisional (OEP), which permits “world-class” drivers to start as the 41st driver in select races, such as the Daytona 500. Through OEP, a number of drivers, including Greg Biffle, have indicated their desire to compete in the race. He stated that he is trying to enter the Daytona 500 in 2025. We’ll see if anything comes of it, but I’m discussing it with a few different guys.

The Great American Race is something that everyone wants to run. I’d want to do that again, maybe a couple more times, since it’s the best thing ever.” [After 2:14] He added that he would be on the track in any capacity, whether as a spectator or a driver. “I’ll be there one way or another, whether as a spectator or holding on the wheel. So I’ll be down there. I love that time of the year in Daytona,” Biffle added [3:35 onwards]. Greg Biffle last participated in the Daytona 500 in 2022 with the NY Racing Team. This was after a six-year absence from the race.
