Although it took longer than expected, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb finally signed his new deal last week. However, while negotiations were ongoing, the All-Pro missed minicamp, training camp, and OTAs. This led some to question whether Lamb would be in “football shape” for the Cowboys’ season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
After two weeks to adjust to Mike McCarthy’s offense, concerns about Lamb’s physical and mental readiness seem unfounded—at least according to Dak Prescott. “He’s going to be fine,” Prescott assured. “It took us two weeks to get him back, and he was already in great shape. He was ready for the intensity of tight windows and defenders on him. You can see from last year’s film that he’s improved. Now it’s just about going out there and showing it.”
Coming off a season where Lamb shattered multiple team records and Prescott led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes, 2023 was a career year for both players. Now, expectations are even higher. With Brandin Cooks, Jake Ferguson, Jalen Tolbert, and KaVontae Turpin supporting Lamb, the Cowboys hope to take the next step in McCarthy’s “Texas Coast Offense.”
The Browns’ defense will have its hands full trying to contain Dak and CeeDee as they reconnect on the field. But that challenge falls squarely on Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. As the Cowboys’ season kicks off this Sunday, the question remains: with Prescott and Lamb back in sync, can they start strong and defeat Cleveland on the road? We’ll soon find out.
