How much longer will Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce continue his NFL career? That question arises every year as he breaks records and helps the Chiefs remain championship contenders.
At Super Bowl 59’s media night on February 3, Kelce’s latest response on retirement caught attention, with his answer hinting that he could still be playing three years from now—well beyond the 2025 season. “FOX Sports: NFL” shared a clip of the exchange on X.
When asked where he sees himself in three years, Kelce repeated the question before reflecting. “Ah, man. I don’t know. Hopefully still playing football.”
He elaborated, saying, “I love doing this. I love coming into work every day. And I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me.”
Kelce acknowledged that he’s been preparing for life beyond football, mentioning his popular podcast, acting opportunities, and other ventures. “That’s always been the goal, knowing that football only lasts for so long,” he explained. “You’ve got to find a way into another career, into another profession, and I’ve been doing that in my offseasons.”
Despite that preparation, Kelce reassured fans that he still envisions himself “being a Kansas City Chief and playing football” in the near future—a statement that’s sure to excite Chiefs Kingdom.
Travis Kelce Reflects on His Career Goals and Legacy
Kelce also made headlines with a revealing answer about his evolving career ambitions.
When asked about his legacy and what he hopes to leave behind in the game, the superstar tight end admitted that his goals have shifted.
“Early on in my career, I really wanted to be known as the greatest to ever do it,” Kelce shared. But he then added, “I think that motivation has changed.”
Now, Kelce’s focus is on “creating memories” and “leaving a lasting impression on the communities” he visits, as well as advancing the tight end position.
“I think that’s the biggest thing,” he explained. “I’ve made an impact in Kansas City, I’ve helped transition this game to getting the tight end the ball more, and I’ve had a lot of fun doing it. That’s something I can really hang my hat on.”
Kelce remains behind former Chiefs great Tony Gonzalez and Cowboys legend Jason Witten in career receiving yards for tight ends. However, if he continues averaging around 1,000 yards per season, he could surpass both within three years. He currently sits 2,976 yards behind Gonzalez for the top spot.
Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt Dismisses Andy Reid Retirement Speculation
While Kelce left room for speculation about his future, Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt put any rumors about head coach Andy Reid’s retirement to rest.
Speaking to The Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala on February 3, Hunt said he was always surprised by the rumors. “I know how much fun Andy’s having,” he stated.
Hunt believes Reid remains energized by the team’s success and his partnership with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “Certainly, he’s matched with the quarterback that’s the perfect complement for him in Patrick. And I know he loves what he’s doing.”
To clear up any doubt, Hunt firmly stated, “I know for a fact he’s going to be back next year.” He also expressed confidence that Reid will continue coaching for “a long time.”
