The New York Jets are ushering in a new era with their latest front-office change.
CBS NFL Insider Jonathan Jones reported that the Jets and Co-Director of Player Personnel Greg Nejmeh have mutually parted ways.
Nejmeh, who had been with the organization for 16 years in various roles, is now exploring opportunities with other teams, Jones added.
> “With new leadership coming in, the Jets and Co-Director of Player Personnel Greg Nejmeh have mutually parted ways, sources tell @NFLonCBS. Nejmeh served 16 years within the organization in a variety of roles and will now seek opportunities with other teams.”
His tenure coincided with the franchise’s ongoing playoff drought—the longest in Jets history.
Reactions Pour In on Social Media
Jets analyst Joe Caporoso saw the move as an encouraging sign for the team’s new leadership:
> “Think it is good early sign for Mougey/Glenn that a change like this is happening.”
Some fans questioned the impact of the move, admitting they weren’t familiar with Nejmeh’s role.
Caporoso elaborated on the significance of the decision, emphasizing how long-standing front-office personnel had remained intact despite the team’s struggles:
> “One of the things we were hoping to see a prospective head of football operations do (but perhaps they are giving this GM/HC combo the bandwidth to do themselves) is start taking apart the relatively senior FO infrastructure that has been here effectively the entire 14-year drought or most of it. It is an alarmingly deep bench. [Joe] Douglas never touched it and in fact doubled down on it by bringing [Rex] Hogan back.”
Jets analyst Will Parkinson suggested that more front-office changes are likely on the way:
> “Would assume this won’t be the last of the change up in the front office. Likely will be more firings and one or multiple meaningful additions to the front office.”
ESPN radio host Jake Asman echoed the sentiment, calling the move a “good start” for Mougey and emphasizing the need for fresh leadership.
> “Good start for Darren Mougey. Need fresh blood in the front office.”
Given that the Jets have had only one winning season in the last 14 years and haven’t reached the playoffs since the 2010 season, shaking up the front office could be a necessary step toward success.
Insider Provides Further Insight on Jets Front Office Moves
The Jets wasted no time removing Nejmeh from their official website.
Brian Costello of the New York Post told Jake Asman on The Jake Asman Show that while he hasn’t heard much about Mougey making new front-office hires, he believes the GM could bring in a top assistant ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
He also speculated that most front-office changes will take place after the draft.
Meanwhile, Phil Savage, who had been serving as interim GM after Joe Douglas’ firing, has remained with the team but now holds the title of “consultant” on the Jets’ website.
Costello noted an unusual lack of turnover in the team’s scouting department despite changes at the top:
> “One thing that is weird to me about the Jets is the scouting department is virtually the same. There are guys there from [Mike] Tannenbaum, there are some guys from [John] Idzik, there are some guys from [Mike] Maccagnan and I think maybe one or two who were added by Douglas. Obviously, his right-hand men are all gone. In terms of the scouts, there hasn’t been a lot of turnover.”
Shortly after Costello’s comments, news of Nejmeh’s departure became public on Tuesday, February 4.
With Darren Mougey at the helm, the Jets are clearly embracing change—signaling a new direction for the franchise.
