The Detroit Lions have elevated two wide receivers, Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson, from their practice squad for their Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Patrick, who made his Lions debut last week with two receptions for 12 yards in their 20-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will see his second elevation.
This marked his first NFL appearance since 2021, following two consecutive season-ending injuries.
Sunday’s game will be the second of three possible practice squad elevations for Patrick, after which Detroit will need to sign him to the active roster to keep using him. For Robinson, this will be his first elevation.
While Patrick is expected to contribute to the offense, he remains on the practice squad for now. Lions head coach Dan Campbell explained the reasoning on Friday:
“What he knows is, ‘Hey man, I’m playing. I’m going to play.’ Whether he’s on the roster or being elevated – we only get three elevations per player – we’ll deal with that when the time comes.
If someone tries to poach him, we’ll have a decision to make. But for now, we plan to elevate and use him more this week. He’s had a strong week in practice.
I like him a lot; he’s a great fit for us. He’s big, physical, tough, and pays attention to the details, so I’m glad to have him on the team.”
