Following a major 35-16 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, October 13, the Jacksonville Jaguars have sparked conversations about their future direction. With the Jaguars now sitting at 1-5 for the season, speculation is mounting over what changes might be made to improve the team.
If the team’s struggles continue, football analyst Braylon Edwards, a former Michigan Wolverines player and No. 3 draft pick, believes he knows who the Jaguars could target as their next head coach—a familiar name for Detroit Lions fans.
Braylon Edwards Predicts Lions Coach Will Join the Jaguars
On October 9, Edwards shared on X that he believes Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn will take over as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025.
Edwards tweeted, “Robert Saleh will be the defensive coordinator next year” for the Lions, “because (Aaron) Glenn will be the head coach of the Jaguars,” adding “book it.”
Glenn has served as the Lions’ defensive coordinator since 2021, following over a decade-long playing career in the NFL, which included a stint with the Jaguars in 2007.
Doug Pederson has been the Jaguars’ head coach since 2022, but this season’s 1-5 record marks the worst start under his leadership.
Robert Saleh, whom Edwards suggested could become the Lions’ defensive coordinator, was recently let go as head coach of the New York Jets on October 8.
Fox NFL Insider Jay Glazer spoke to Saleh after the firing, sharing on X that Saleh was “blindsided” by Jets owner Woody Johnson’s decision to let him go, expressing disappointment that he wasn’t given the chance to turn things around with what Saleh described as “a very good roster.”
Jaguars Owner Stands Behind the Players and Coaches
Whether or not the Jaguars will have a head coaching vacancy in 2025 remains uncertain. In an interview with the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union on October 12, Jaguars owner Shad Khan expressed his support for head coach Doug Pederson, general manager Trent Baalke, and the players.
“I still believe in them. I believe in the players, I believe in the coaching staff. I believe in Trent,” Khan said. “Obviously, the results are disappointing for all of them, just as well as me or any other Jaguar fan, but the key thing one has to understand (is) we have evolved and really got to a level. I think we’ve got the players, we’ve got the coaching, we’ve got the facilities.”
Khan acknowledged the Jaguars’ embarrassing 47-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 3 of Monday Night Football but maintained his confidence in Pederson and Baalke.
“I admire what Trent [Baalke]’s done, Doug [Pederson]’s done, and I think, how do we support them to have better results, more wins?” Khan said.
