The Detroit Lions dominated the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 13, with a 47-9 victory on the road. However, the celebrations were overshadowed by a serious injury to Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who suffered a broken tibia during the game.
Despite being rivals, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott immediately went to comfort Hutchinson after the injury.
Having experienced a similar situation when he fractured and dislocated his right ankle in Week 5 of the 2020 season, Prescott understood what Hutchinson was going through. After the game, Prescott shared what he said to Hutchinson in that moment.
Following Hutchinson’s injury, the entire Lions team gathered on the field to support their star defender, joined by several Cowboys players, including Prescott. Reflecting on the situation, Prescott said, “It’s tough to watch, especially having been through it myself. I hated seeing it.”
Prescott explained that his initial words to Hutchinson were meant to offer encouragement: “I told him to keep his head up. This is just part of the story. From the way this guy started his career and the kind of person he seems to be, even though I don’t know him personally, I believe he’ll come back stronger.
It might be hard for him to see that now, but I know he’ll be fine. He got hurt making a sack, a game-changing play. I wish him the best in his recovery, knowing the mental challenge will be as tough as the physical one.”
Prescott also mentioned his intention to follow up with Hutchinson later, adding, “I’ll Probably Get His Number.”
He continued, “It was something I felt compelled to do at that moment. I’ll likely get his number from one of the Michigan guys in our locker room and reach out again.
I remember when I was in his position, Logan Ryan gave me some encouraging words. At the time, I barely registered what he said, but his follow-up meant the most to me, and I plan to do the same for Aidan.”
Prescott concluded by acknowledging that, as a competitor, Hutchinson might not have fully absorbed what was said on the field. “But I know he’ll come back better.”
