Rumors: Lions $14 Million Star Predicted to Move from Detroit to Colts – Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report

The Detroit Lions have emerged as one of the NFL’s best teams this season, with Dan Campbell’s squad sitting at 10-1 and leading the NFC North through 12 weeks. After starting the season 1-1, Detroit has rattled off nine straight wins, including a dominant victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 13. However, the Lions won’t have much time to savor their latest triumph, as they prepare to host the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving in Week 13.

While Detroit’s offense has garnered most of the headlines, Aaron Glenn’s defense has been a standout unit in 2024, particularly the secondary. A glaring weakness from last season has turned into a significant strength, thanks in large part to the addition of cornerback Carlton Davis.

Davis, who spent his first six NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was traded to Detroit in the offseason and has become a cornerstone of the Lions’ secondary. With free agency looming in the spring, the 27-year-old is expected to draw interest from several teams, making it a challenge for Lions GM Brad Holmes to retain him.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has speculated that Davis might leave Detroit and sign with the Indianapolis Colts in the offseason.

In 2024, Davis has been outstanding, recording two interceptions and holding opposing quarterbacks to an 80.4 passer rating when targeted. The veteran cornerback, who started 86 games in his career and won a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay in 2021, has been a critical piece of Detroit’s defensive success.

The Colts, on the other hand, have struggled mightily in the secondary this season, ranking among the league’s worst at preventing explosive plays.

Adding a player of Davis’s caliber would provide Indianapolis with a true CB1 and significantly upgrade their defense. With an estimated $50 million in cap space this offseason, per Over the Cap, the Colts are in a strong position to make a competitive offer to the former Auburn standout.

If the Lions are unable to re-sign Davis, the Colts could be a compelling destination for the reliable and consistent cornerback.
