The Detroit Lions continue their remarkable 2024 campaign, securing a 34-31 win against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football in Week 14. With this victory, Dan Campbell’s squad improved their home record to 6-1 and swept the Packers for the second time in three seasons.
Despite putting up 34 points, the Lions didn’t dominate throughout the game. The offense struggled to establish a consistent run game and turned the ball over twice—a Jared Goff interception in the first half and a turnover on downs late in the third quarter. However, Campbell’s team showcased their trademark resilience and grit, delivering key plays in the fourth quarter to clinch the win.
This win punched Detroit’s ticket to the playoffs for the second consecutive season, a feat the franchise hasn’t achieved since the stretch from 1993 to 1995. The Lions also reached their 12th win of the season, marking the first time in franchise history they’ve posted back-to-back 12-win seasons.
Additionally, the Lions set a new team record with their 11th consecutive victory on Thursday Night Football, extending the longest winning streak in franchise history.
Despite significant injuries on defense and numerous challenges this season, the Lions are arguably the NFL’s top team and are in prime position to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
The road ahead remains tough, with Detroit hosting the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 in what could be a Super Bowl preview. A challenging Week 18 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings also looms. Yet, no team in the league is playing better than the Lions, as the franchise enjoys a long-overdue resurgence after years of heartbreak.
