The Detroit Lions are strengthening their defense by activating Jamal Adams ahead of Sunday’s showdown against the Buffalo Bills.
The Lions made waves by adding Adams to their roster after his stint on the practice squad. Now fully integrated with his new team, the former All-Pro defensive back will officially join Detroit’s active roster for the critical matchup against Buffalo.
Adams, who started the season with the Tennessee Titans, requested his release in October. Now a part of a Lions squad with championship aspirations, Adams shared his enthusiasm for the fresh start, noting how energized he feels with the team.
“It felt like being back around winning football again,” Adams told Audacy. “Like, playoff atmosphere. The energy just felt like I’m supposed to be here, man. I’m supposed to be a part of this.”
He added, “But hey, this is like a new chapter in my life, and I’m forever grateful for it. Went to Tennessee, it didn’t work out, asked for my release, went home, trained, worked my tail off, and a couple weeks later I got the call, man. And no better organization than this.”
Adams Hails the Lions as a “Special Group”
Adams has a familiar connection with the Lions through Quandre Diggs, a former teammate on the Seahawks and briefly with the Titans. While the transition to Detroit has been smooth, Adams is adjusting to a new jersey number, moving from 33 to 25. Despite the change, he’s just thankful to be playing again.
“I’m getting used to it, sadly,” Adams joked. “People will be like, ‘What up, 2-5!’ or, ‘Let’s go, 2-5!’ and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Oh, they’re talking about me!’ It’s cool, man. At the end of the day, it is just a number. I’m just more so grateful to be on the field with these guys and have an opportunity.”
Adams also praised the culture within the Lions organization.
“It’s a special group, obviously, and the record speaks for itself, but it’s even better people in the organization,” he said. “I’m fortunate enough to be a part of it.”
