The Detroit Lions have faced a relentless wave of injuries this season, with Week 16 bringing more unfortunate updates. Three players—Alim McNeill, Carlton Davis, and Khalil Dorsey—were placed on injured reserve after sustaining injuries in Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills. Running back David Montgomery also went down in that game, but his situation appears slightly more optimistic at this point.
Head coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the mounting injuries and continued his approach of designating Wednesday as a rest day for several players, a pattern seen in recent weeks. Many of those players returned to full participation during Thursday’s practice, signaling some improvement within the roster.
As they prepare to rebound from last week’s loss, the Lions aim to avoid further setbacks when they face the Chicago Bears on the road this Sunday.
Final Detroit Lions Week 16 Injury Report
David Montgomery, while not yet placed on injured reserve, is confirmed to miss Sunday’s game as expected.
Linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin made a surprising return to practice on Thursday, starting his 21-day activation window to come off injured reserve. Despite his progress, limited practices and time remaining in his activation period make it unlikely for him to play this weekend.
Safety Brian Branch, who appeared hampered by an issue during last week’s game against the Bills, is now confirmed to have a calf injury. His limited participation in Thursday and Friday’s practices leaves him legitimately questionable for Sunday’s matchup.
Guard Graham Glasgow suffered an injury against Buffalo as well. While Campbell initially suggested Glasgow wouldn’t practice on Friday, reporters noted his presence on the field, and he was ultimately listed as limited. If he’s unable to suit up on Sunday, Kayode Awosika and Christian Mahogany have been taking practice reps at left guard as potential replacements.
Defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu also began his 21-day activation window this week. With 18 days left to determine his return, the Lions seem to be in no rush, though his questionable designation hints at a chance he could play on Sunday.
Center Frank Ragnow moved from a scheduled rest day on Wednesday to being listed with a back injury on Thursday. However, after practicing fully on Friday, he is cleared to play this weekend.
