As the Detroit Lions entered the 2025 offseason, it was clear that changes to their coaching staff were on the horizon.
So, when offensive coordinator Ben Johnson quickly landed a new job following the Lions’ playoff elimination, it wasn’t much of a surprise.
What did raise some eyebrows, however, was where Johnson ended up.
Johnson agreed to a deal with the Chicago Bears, a division rival in the NFC North.
Unsurprisingly, this move hasn’t sat well with Lions fans.
And now, it appears one of the key players in Johnson’s offense over the past two seasons isn’t thrilled about it either.
Just a day after the announcement, Lions running back David Montgomery shared his reaction on his Instagram story, as noted by mlive’s Kory Woods.
Montgomery’s connection to the Bears runs deep. He began his NFL career with Chicago after being selected in the third round of the 2019 draft.
During his four seasons with the Bears, Montgomery amassed 3,609 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns while adding 1,240 receiving yards and four receiving scores.
He then moved to Detroit, where he spent the past two seasons under Johnson’s guidance.
During that span, Montgomery rushed for 1,790 yards and 25 touchdowns and caught 52 passes for 458 yards.
Facing the Bears was already personal for Montgomery, but now, with Johnson joining his former team, those matchups in 2025 promise to be even more intense.
