DeAndre Hopkins Dropped 1-Word Message Following Chiefs Trade

DeAndre Hopkins made a brief but notable statement on social media following news of his trade to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The trade between the Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans became official on October 24. Since the initial reports of the deal, the former three-time first-team All-Pro wide receiver has said only one word on social media: “Activated…”

Hopkins shared this message on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of himself and a video where he’s seen backing out of a driveway in his car. In the video, two children in the backseat of his convertible are flashing the “peace” sign, seemingly hinting at a departure.

In just 24 hours, the post has garnered over 75,000 likes.

On his Instagram story, Hopkins also shared a few reposts. One came from a friend in Tennessee bidding him farewell, while the other two were from excited Chiefs fans celebrating his arrival.

Hopkins has yet to post on X about the trade, nor has he formally addressed either the Titans or Chiefs fanbases.

DeAndre Hopkins Has Previously Expressed Interest in Playing With Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes

Hopkins appears pleased with the trade to the Chiefs, and why wouldn’t he be? Most NFL wide receivers would relish the opportunity to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes. Hopkins has previously hinted that playing alongside Mahomes could elevate his performance, and he’s made it known in the past that he’d love to join Kansas City.

Before being released by the Arizona Cardinals, Hopkins was the subject of trade rumors. In a May 2023 podcast interview with the “I AM ATHLETE” crew, he listed five quarterbacks he’d like to play with if traded—Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, and Jalen Hurts were on that list.

In April 2023, during a social media spot with CBS Sports and the “All Things Covered” podcast, Hopkins indicated that he’d be happy with a trade to either the Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills.

For both Hopkins and the Kansas City community, this trade feels like a long time coming.

Tyreek Hill’s Cryptic Post After DeAndre Hopkins’ Trade to the Chiefs

For Chiefs fans, the excitement of Hopkins in a Kansas City jersey was amplified by a cryptic social media post from Tyreek Hill.

A few hours after the Hopkins trade was announced on October 23, Hill posted a simple message on X: “hm .”

While it’s unclear if Hill was specifically referring to the Hopkins trade, the comment section certainly interpreted it that way. Replies ranged from SpongeBob memes to Chiefs fans joking about the situation, with one fan even encouraging Hill to return to Kansas City for another Super Bowl run.

“Come back to the Chiefs just for fun & the rest of the league might as well give up,” one fan suggested.

Despite the Chiefs’ current undefeated status without Hopkins, the addition of the wide receiver has certainly caused a stir. Kansas City remains the favorite to win their third consecutive championship, and with all the injuries on the offensive side, Hopkins could make that goal even more achievable. His arrival will likely make the rest of the NFL a bit more anxious about the Chiefs’ continued dominance.
