In the closing minutes of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 27-20 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8, Chiefs tight end Jody Fortson was injured during an onside kick attempt by the Raiders. Unable to bear weight on his right leg, Fortson was helped to the sideline by the training staff.
After the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shared that Fortson had sustained a right knee injury, which would need further evaluation to assess the severity.
Many fans took to social media after witnessing the injury, sympathizing with Fortson, who has endured numerous setbacks while striving to establish himself with the Chiefs.
“Poor Jody Fortson. Watching him go off the field is heartbreaking,” wrote Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest on X, formerly Twitter. “That kid has gone through so many bad-luck injuries. Looks like it could be another.”
“Jody Fortson did get hurt on the onside kick. Hate it for him. Injuries have robbed him of his full potential. Praying it’s nothing serious,” another person wrote.
“Somebody has voodoo on Jody Fortson[‘s] career,” one fan added. “My god, I’ve never seen someone have such bad injury luck.”
Chiefs CB Nazeeh Johnson Suffered Concussion
In addition to Fortson’s injury, Coach Reid updated that cornerback Nazeeh Johnson sustained a concussion against the Raiders.
Johnson, filling in for injured starting CB Jaylen Watson, left the game during the first half and did not return. After his exit, third-year corner Joshua Williams and rookie Christian Rolland-Wallace saw increased playing time.
With the victory over their division rivals, the Chiefs improved to a 7-0 record.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 27 of 38 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. His primary target, tight end Travis Kelce, hauled in 10 of 12 targets for 90 yards and a touchdown. Newly signed receiver DeAndre Hopkins played a limited number of snaps but caught 2 of 3 targets for 29 yards.
Kansas City’s leading rusher, veteran Kareem Hunt, carried the ball 21 times for 59 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, the Chiefs recorded seven tackles for loss, five sacks, one fumble recovery, and limited the Raiders to just 228 total yards, per ESPN. Linebacker Drue Tranquill stood out with six tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack.
X Users Reacted to Chiefs’ Week 8 Win
Following the Chiefs’ Week 8 win over Las Vegas, users on X shared their thoughts.
“Dear Chiefs, Can we please have just one game that’s a comfortable win? My blood pressure can’t handle this stress every week,” one fan wrote.
“Take more shots into the end zone from now on please. The short stuff in the red zone results in field goals which made this closer than it needed to be. The end of the game was great though,” another commented.
“Always, always a good day when the Chiefs beat the Raiders, no matter what city those guys are calling home now,” another person said. “7-0 and a win over Oakland, oops, Las Vegas.”
