ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter Reveals WR Davante Adams Trade Destination Amid Jets Trade Talks…

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams was scheduled to make his weekly appearance on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams on Tuesday, October 8… until plans changed.

At 9:07 pm ET, Kay Adams posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Davante Adams on @UpAndAdamsShow tomorrow.”

However, just 45 minutes later, Adams announced there had been a change in plans, saying, “Oh boy – lots happening at the moment with our guy Adams… he won’t be on TOMORROW. Sorry bout that and stay tuned.”

Adams and Aaron Rodgers Were Both Slated for National TV

The Raiders’ standout receiver had been regularly participating in weekly interviews with Kay Adams throughout the season. Coincidentally, that same day, his former teammate Aaron Rodgers was scheduled for his weekly chat with Pat McAfee.

On Monday, October 7, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter told McAfee that he believes it’s likely the Raiders will trade Adams to either the New York Jets or the New Orleans Saints.

“You’ll need to see if the Raiders are willing to pay down any of the money still owed to Davante for the rest of the year. From what I understand, they’ve been unwilling to do that so far. They don’t want to pay him anything more. That makes it tougher for a team like New Orleans, who only has [$2.6] million in cap space,” Schefter explained.

The Jets have an advantage over the Saints because they have more cap space available.

“The Jets have more cap space, enough to make this deal work,” Schefter added.

According to Over The Cap, the Jets have $17.2 million in cap space, which ranks ninth in the NFL. In contrast, the Saints only have $2.6 million, ranking 30th.

A Growing Urgency and a Quiet Deadline to Watch

Schefter pointed out that Raiders owner Mark Davis is paying Adams “$970,000, almost a million dollars for each week he’s not playing. I don’t think Mark Davis wants to keep doing that.”

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport added on “The Rich Eisen Show” that if Adams “is off the team by Wednesday [October 9], the Raiders won’t have to pay him that million-dollar salary for the week.”

It seems likely that a trade will happen by Tuesday, October 8. Adams has already requested a trade and made it clear that he prefers to play elsewhere. With a new regime under head coach Antonio Pierce, the Raiders are seeking players who want to be part of their future, not those wishing to leave.

For whatever reasons, Adams’ time with the Raiders appears to be nearing its end. A trade seems to be a matter of when, not if.

The Jets are seen as the favorites to land Adams. He wants to go there, and the team is interested in making the deal. It’s now about finding the right price.

Similar to how Rodgers’ move to the Jets was inevitable but required finding the proper terms, the same applies here with Adams.
