Minnesota Vikings coach Brian Flores was spotted reacting during an NFL game.
Two leading candidates have surfaced in the New York Jets’ 2025 head coaching search.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the two front-runners are Brian Flores of the Minnesota Vikings and Aaron Glenn of the Detroit Lions.
“I would say those are the two favorites at this point, the way I see it,” Cimini stated on Don, Hahn & Rosenberg on 880AM ESPN New York.
Cimini further emphasized, “The two favorites to be the next head coach of the Jets are Brian Flores and Aaron Glenn.”
Aaron Glenn’s Interest in the Jets Job
Cimini shared several notable insights about Glenn:
“He’s really interested in the Jets job.”
“It’s been a position he’s had his eye on for several years.”
“I think he’d love to come back home.”
The Jets Could Avoid a Major Problem
If the Jets were to hire Flores as their next head coach, it has been speculated that Ryan Grigson might follow as general manager.
Grigson has held the role of senior vice president of player personnel with the Vikings since 2022, while Flores has served as the team’s defensive coordinator since 2023.
However, Grigson’s reputation has been under scrutiny due to his earlier stint as the Colts’ general manager.
While Grigson’s record with Indianapolis stands at 49-31 over five seasons, his tenure raised concerns.
“In my own opinion, I want to stress that, I do not think he would be a good hire for the Jets,” Cimini explained on TOJ Talks with Jets analyst Will Parkinson.
“Grigson does not have a good drafting record. He ran Andrew Luck into premature retirement by failing to build an offensive line around him. Now, yes, he had a decent record in Indianapolis. They won games and made the playoffs three times with a generational quarterback prospect in Andrew Luck, whom he drafted. So, he gets credit for that, but you or I could have picked Andrew Luck. The rest of his drafting in Indianapolis was suspect at best,” Cimini noted.
He added, “I would be surprised if the Jets hired Grigson. While I believe he’s tried to align himself with Flores, I don’t think it’s the right move, and I’d be shocked if the Jets went in that direction.”
Hiring Flores Without Grigson
Brian Flores remains an appealing option for the Jets, primarily because of his head coaching experience.
In his three seasons as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Flores achieved a 24-25 record. Notably, he posted nine and ten wins in his final two seasons.
While some Jets fans are enthusiastic about the idea of hiring Flores, they’ve expressed concerns about the possibility of Grigson being part of the package.
However, Cimini clarified that the Flores-Grigson connection isn’t set in stone.
“I don’t think so,” Cimini told Parkinson when asked if Flores is tied to Grigson. “I don’t believe they are entirely connected. Grigson, more so, seems to want to align himself with Flores.”
