There was considerable buzz surrounding Justin Fields ahead of Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Las Vegas Raiders, especially after offseason acquisition Russell Wilson was removed from the injury list on Friday.
Wilson was expected to be Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback when they signed him to a one-year deal in the offseason, but a calf injury delayed his debut. As a result, Fields, another offseason pickup by the Steelers, stepped in to fill the role.
Despite Wilson being cleared from the injury report for the first time this season, he still didn’t make his Steelers debut on Sunday. This allowed Fields to earn another start, and he delivered another solid performance.
Fields, who had guided Pittsburgh to a 3-2 record heading into Sunday’s game, was impressive against Las Vegas, completing 14 of 24 passes for 145 yards. The former Chicago Bears quarterback also rushed 11 times for 59 yards and scored two touchdowns, leading the Steelers to a commanding 32-13 victory over the Raiders.
After the game, Fields’ rumored girlfriend, Gianna Carmona, shared a three-word message on Instagram following his standout performance.
“Yall heard him 🖤,” she captioned her post.
Carmona, who has been attending Steelers games in Pittsburgh, couldn’t resist expressing her admiration for Fields after the win at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. Though their relationship hasn’t been publicly confirmed, she shared a video posted by the Steelers featuring Fields delivering a message after the victory.
“What’s good, Steeler Nation?” Fields said. “Out here in Vegas. Just got a dub, baby. Here we go. On to the next. Yes, sir.”
The Steelers’ next game is set for Oct. 20 at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh against the New York Jets. Fields’ impressive showing against the Raiders may give head coach Mike Tomlin plenty to consider when deciding who will start at quarterback in Week 7.
