But now, their son, Brexton Busch, is following in his father’s tire tracks, taking up racing at a young age. This presents a unique challenge for Samantha Busch, Kyle’s wife, as she strives to ensure Brexton’s education doesn’t take a back seat amid his budding racing career.
Recently, Samantha shared how they manage to keep Brexton’s schooling on track while allowing him the flexibility to chase his dreams on the racetrack, offering a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes balance of parenting, racing, and education.
A Racing Family’s Challenge
Brexton Busch, now racing in various youth leagues, spends much of his time traveling with his family to events across the country. As with any family with a child involved in high-level sports, the demands of racing pose logistical challenges—particularly around maintaining a steady education.
Speaking about the balance, Samantha explained, “We knew early on that if Brexton was going to pursue racing seriously, we had to think outside the box when it came to his schooling. The traditional classroom setting just wasn’t going to work for our lifestyle.”
The Secret to Brexton’s Flexible Education
To accommodate Brexton’s busy racing schedule, Samantha revealed they opted for a hybrid approach to education—combining online schooling with personalized tutoring. “We found an incredible online school that allows Brexton to take his classes on the go,” she said. “The great thing about it is that it gives him the flexibility to work at his own pace, no matter where we are. If we’re at the track one day, he can catch up on lessons the next.”
In addition to the online curriculum, Brexton also receives one-on-one support through a tutor, whom the family has employed to travel with them on occasion. “Having someone who can tailor his learning based on his schedule has been invaluable. We’re making sure he’s not only caught up but also thriving academically,” Samantha added.
The tutor helps ensure that Brexton stays on track with his studies while allowing him to focus on his racing without the pressure of missing out on schoolwork. This balance has been key in allowing Brexton to grow both as a racer and a student.
Instilling Life Lessons Through Racing
For Samantha and Kyle Busch, education isn’t just about academics but also about life lessons, many of which Brexton is already learning on the track. “Racing teaches him discipline, hard work, and time management—things that will help him in his schoolwork and later in life,” Samantha said. “We try to use his passion for racing to encourage his studies. If he works hard at school, he earns more time on the track.”
She emphasized that while Brexton’s racing is important to the family, they make sure he understands the value of education. “At the end of the day, racing is what he loves, but we’ve always told him that school comes first. He knows that if his grades slip, we’ll hit the brakes on the racing schedule.”
A Balancing Act for the Future
As Brexton’s racing career progresses, the Busch family knows the balancing act between racing and education will only get trickier. However, Samantha feels confident in the system they’ve developed. “It’s about finding what works for your family,” she said. “For us, it’s been this flexible schooling model that allows Brexton to keep chasing his dream while staying on top of his education.”
