NASCAR announced the results of Austin Dillon’s bid to return to the finals
The results of Richard Childress Racing’s No.
RCR was fined by NASCAR because Austin Dillon stopped the Cup Series race at Richmond on August 11th. 3 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s have qualified for the final. However, NASCAR decided to revoke Dillon’s eligibility to play as a co-driver.
Dillon and the No. 3 team also earned 25 points in the driver’s seat and the championship, while No. 3 team leader Brandon Bensch was suspended for three races.
RCR appealed the decision to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The panel upheld most aspects of the punishment, but reduced Benash’s suspension to one game.
The board said in a statement that Dillon and Team #3 crossed the line with their actions. NASCAR represents the elite of motor racing, as its drivers are required to demonstrate good behavior in order to be allowed to compete. The “line” was rejected, the statement said.
RCR responded with a statement suggesting an appeal to the final appellate officer.
