In addition, NASCAR invited officials from major American cities for the opportunity to watch the second Chicago Street Race in July. According to Stern, San Diego is one of NASCAR’s top choices to host a future street race.
NASCAR wants to explore areas in Southern California and is also discussing possible locations with officials in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and others in the Pacific Northwest. The interest in Southern California stems from the history of auto racing at the Autoclub Speedway in Fontana, which began in 1997.
However, it is unclear if NASCAR will host both street races or if the new street venue will replace the Chicago street race. NASCAR’s three-year contract expires next year, but it has an early termination clause. It’s good to know that the Chicago race was good, but the rain had a big impact.
