Joey Logano has never been afraid to get involved in a controversial situation. He became the focus of a contentious discussion following his victory in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series. Experts and fans disagreed about whether he earned the title. His journey to the trophy was largely dependent on NASCAR’s “win it and you’re in” playoff structure, and his average finish of 17.1 was the lowest ever for a Cup Series champion. More reliable drivers, according to critics, were denied an equal opportunity. Logano, however, flatly rejected these grievances. He was explicit about his position in a speech prior to the 2025 season. “I’m sorry, you didn’t perform well enough if you can’t produce in the playoffs,” he remarked.
He wished to respond to all of his detractors and skeptics, even though he did not name any. However, the criticism has persisted in spite of his defense. Logano is happy that he doesn’t receive any criticism in one area of NASCAR, though, because he genuinely enjoys it!
A champions’ booth will be present at Homestead-Miami Speedway
It’s time for NASCAR’s yearly driver-only broadcast as the caravan arrives at Homestead-Miami. The three-time Cup Series champion has explained why driving is a far simpler job than being in the commentary booth, though, before stepping up to the microphone. Logano revealed a startling double standard that fans appear to like in an open discussion on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Logano made a noteworthy observation regarding his impending future in the FOX Sports booth. He thinks that unlike traditional broadcasters, drivers are not held to the same high standards by fans. “This is the unjust benefit of driving… You will be irritated on social media if you guys make a poor call on the radio or television at the end of the race. You may expect that if we s—- up. “Oh yeah, they’re drivers; that’s not their job,” you say. And it’s all right. We could play about and enjoy ourselves, and that’s what people want to see. Unable to control his laughter, Logano remarked, “They want to see us s— up, they want to see us stumble on our words.”
Logano admits that people want to watch things go in unexpected directions, which is a rare instance of self-awareness on his part. Paradoxically, this “unfair advantage” stands in stark contrast to his racing experiences. Although his fans like his raw moments in the booth, they were incensed when he won the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series championship in spite of his lackluster performance. On TV, they find his blunders amusing, but on the track, they view anything less than dominance as unworthy, which exemplifies the double standard. Logano is accepting his new role in the booth in spite of the criticism he received on the track. He thinks the next “Drivers Only” program will be entertaining. However, we are improving. Without a doubt, we’re becoming rather proficient at this. And we do it frequently, don’t we? I’m up there a lot… I mean, it’d be fun. There’s no doubt it’s gonna be fun and a good time. It always is. So, I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
Logano will be joined by two other Cup Series champions, Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick, in the booth for the “Drivers Only” broadcast at Homestead. Harvick will do play-by-play, while Logano and Keselowski will analyze the action. Meanwhile, Austin Cindric and Carson Hocevar will cover the pit road. NASCAR fans have come to love the “Drivers Only” concept, and this is the first time the event will be held during a Truck Series race instead of an Xfinity Series event. With so much talent in the booth, the broadcast is sure to be exciting.
In addition to being excited about it, Logano is warning his rivals in the Cup Series. His attention is still on the championship fight, even though his TV position is just temporary. And he thinks this season is far from over for Team Penske.
