AdventHealth and LEGACY MOTOR CLUB are collaborating on a special throwback paint scheme for Erik Jones’ No. 43 Toyota Camry, paying tribute to a former NASCAR winner while promoting colorectal cancer awareness.
Jones will unveil the throwback design during the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway on April 6 as part of NASCAR’s Throwback Weekend. The design, revealed by AdventHealth on Friday, is inspired by John Andretti’s 1998 STP Pontiac from his tenure with Petty Enterprises. Andretti raced for the team across eight seasons between 1994 and 2007, making 201 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Andretti earned his second and final Cup Series victory in 1999 at Martinsville Speedway in dramatic fashion. After spinning from contact with Ward Burton and losing a lap, he fought his way back onto the lead lap in an era before free passes for lapped cars. In the closing laps, Andretti surged ahead, passing Jeff Burton with just four laps remaining to claim the win.
In 2020, Andretti passed away after battling colon cancer. During his fight, he became an advocate for early screenings, using the hashtag #CheckIt4Andretti on social media to spread awareness. Following his passing, the CheckIt4Andretti Charitable Foundation was established to promote early detection of colorectal cancer and provide financial assistance for uninsured, underinsured, and high-risk individuals needing screenings.
As part of the tribute, Jones’ car will display Andretti’s name on the passenger-side namerail, with #CheckIt4Andretti featured on the rear of the vehicle.
Jones, a two-time Southern 500 winner at Darlington in 2019 and 2022, will compete in the Goodyear 400 on April 6 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
