Martinsville Madness: Chaos and Frustration in NASCAR Truck Series
Being in the lead proved to be a disadvantage in Friday night’s NASCAR Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway. Corey Heim controlled most of the Blue Ridge 200 but saw his chances of victory vanish after a wreck. He wasn’t the only one affected—Ty Majeski and Kaden Honeycutt were also caught up in the crash.
Layne Riggs, who finished 11th, didn’t hold back while discussing the chaotic race with Scotte Sprinkle of Short Track Scene. He expressed his frustration with how the Truck Series races at Martinsville.
“I love short track racing, but I hate this track at the national level,” Riggs said, per On3. “It’s disappointing when the late model race here is the cleanest one of the weekend. The Truck Series is just a mess.”
Riggs continued, explaining how difficult it is to avoid trouble.
“You can be running the right line, protecting the bottom, doing everything correctly, and then a chain reaction starts from five trucks back. Before you know it, you’re the one getting spun out,” he said. “At that point, who do you even blame? It’s just frustrating because you’ve got a fast truck, but it doesn’t matter.”
Heim also shared his disappointment after losing out on a potential win.
“It’s pretty disappointing,” he said. “We had a great Tundra, and I was just trying to manage the tires while leading. To go from struggling here last year to having a fast truck and still not winning—it’s frustrating. But that’s just part of racing at this track.”
The Truck Series will be back in action on April 11 at Bristol.
