Legacy Motor Club filed a lawsuit against Rick Ware Racing (RWR) on Tuesday, and RWR is fighting back. In a statement, the group asserts that Legacy’s action “distorts the actual facts.” Over a disagreement with RWR’s charter, Legacy filed a lawsuit. An arrangement for RWR to sell Legacy one of its charters for the 2026 season is the source of contention between the two parties. Even though RWR signed the contract with 2026 as the execution date, The Athletic reported Tuesday night that RWR believed the deal was for 2027. Thus, the misunderstanding and the deadlock.
In a statement, Rick Ware Racing said, “This lawsuit is a misguided attempt to damage our reputation and distorts the actual facts.” “RWR has conducted business with the utmost professionalism and integrity, and has engaged in good faith negotiations. We anticipate a prompt resolution of this issue through the appropriate legal processes and are sure that the truth will come to light. The case was submitted on Tuesday to a Charlotte, North Carolina, court. The inclusion of a second vehicle for the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series is beyond Legacy Motor Club’s authority. Legacy was looking to add a third charter deal from Rick Ware Racing, which would ensure Cup Series entry in 2026.
Legacy characterized RWR as “cash-strapped and unable to compete at Cup Series level” in the complaint. On March 3, 2025, the parties agreed to sell the charter to Legacy, according to Courthouse News Service. But according to Legacy, RWR is now trying to back out of the agreement. According to Legacy’s complaint, “RWR (Rick Ware Racing) wants to back out despite having a binding deal in place.” It has informed Legacy that it will never complete the parties’ transaction. Legacy has unsuccessfully attempted to reason with RWR. Legacy can no longer wait. It is now bringing this lawsuit to uphold its rights and make RWR honor its agreement.
A large portion of Legacy’s argument against Rick Ware Racing is predicated on the idea that the latter company is having financial difficulties while Legacy is prospering. Legacy has accused Rick Ware Racing of having “cold feet” and is requesting a preliminary injunction and a temporary restraining order.
