In a startling turn of events, the possibility of yet another team closing amid mounting financial strains shocks the NASCAR community. In recent years, a number of seasoned teams have left the sport, with financial difficulties being the main cause of their departure. Mike Harmon Racing is one such team that may be heading into closure. Since its debut in 2007, MHR has participated in the Xfinity Series on a part-time basis, however it is not a major contender. With just two top-10 finishes in 411 appearances, the team has had trouble gaining sponsors and has failed to make a big impression in the series. When ARCA Journalist Colby Evans shared on social media about MHR’s closing, speculation about the team’s withdrawal from an upcoming Xfinity event. The post was met with a cryptic response from MHR’s official account, further fueling rumors of the team’s impending shutdown.

Although MHR has not provided an official confirmation, sources indicate that the team is in fact thinking about stopping activities. It has been difficult for the team to maintain their position in the competitive NASCAR scene due to their history of multiple Did Not Finishes (DNFs) in races throughout the years. MHR’s tenacity has been fueled by team owner Mike Harmon, who has never wavered in his faith in the group’s abilities. However, given the cut throat nature of NASCAR and growing financial strains, MHR may have little choice but to close. The team’s supporters have been thinking back on MHR’s greatest moments, including as their outstanding 2020 season performance and their first top-20 finish in five years. In spite of obstacles, MHR has had its share of victories and memorable races throughout its tenure in NASCAR.

With the future of Mike Harmon Racing in question, the NASCAR world is forced to consider the team’s achievements and the struggles experienced by underdog teams in the sport. Although it is unclear if MHR will actually leave the racing world, its possible closure is yet another development in NASCAR’s constantly changing landscape.
