The Denver Broncos are heading into the 2025 NFL Draft with significant depth at the edge rusher position. A strong pass rush remains crucial for success, and former Broncos star Von Miller is still available on the free-agent market.
Miller, an eight-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro, and two-time Super Bowl champion, has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Denver.
“I’ve always loved blue and orange. You just have to see,” Miller said during an interview with Kay Adams on Up & Adams on March 25. “It’s a fun time for me and my career right now. You just take it one day at a time and wait and see. It can be exciting, but it can also be scary.”
Miller emphasized that he isn’t worried about the future, viewing his next step as another chapter in his storied career. “I’ve done everything I could possibly do. Whatever is next for me is what’s next. It’s fun and exciting. You’re looking at new teams and new quarterbacks. You can never replace a Josh Allen and the season he had, but new environments and fresh opportunities can be exciting.”
The 36-year-old linebacker recorded 46 total tackles and 8.0 sacks in 2019, his last fully healthy season with the Broncos. However, since then, injuries have limited his impact, and he did not record a sack in 2023.
Since joining the Buffalo Bills, Miller has played in 36 games (11 starts) over three seasons, tallying 41 total tackles and 14.0 sacks. He also won his second Super Bowl title with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
With $191.6 million in career earnings, Miller has the luxury of being selective about his next move.
Broncos Warned Against Von Miller Reunion
Despite Miller’s openness to returning, the Broncos have not shown interest in a reunion this offseason. Head coach Sean Payton could be a significant factor in keeping the door closed on Miller’s return.
“There is a time and place for a Vonster reunion in Denver,” Sean Keeler of The Denver Post wrote on March 11. “But that place is not at Dove Valley under Sean Payton’s leadership. That time is certainly not now.”
The Broncos have already made long-term commitments at the edge rusher position. Jonathon Cooper signed a four-year, $54 million contract extension during the season, while Nik Bonitto, who finished with more sacks than Cooper, is entering the final year of his rookie deal.
Additionally, Denver has promising young players such as Dondrea Tillman and Jonah Elliss, who became the youngest player to record at least 5.0 sacks during the 2024 season.
The Broncos currently hold eight picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, including the 20th overall selection. Their aggressive offseason has put them in a flexible position with only a few remaining roster needs.
Draft strategy is expected to play a role in Denver’s decision-making regarding roster moves.
“One factor: If Denver does not target a playmaker in the first round, they’ll potentially be in a position to draft one of the top defensive linemen,” Nick Kosmider of The Athletic wrote on March 17. “It’s part of why I wouldn’t expect any extension decisions to be made until after the draft.”
That same approach likely applies to external additions, even for a franchise legend like Von Miller.
