Two-Time Pro Bowler with 11,848 Total Yards and 88 Touchdowns, Former Patriots RB, Linked to Detroit Lions in Proposed Mega Trade

As injuries continue to plague their roster, particularly at running back, multiple analysts have suggested the Detroit Lions bolster their depth by signing former NFL rushing leader Ezekiel Elliott. The veteran back, recently released by the Dallas Cowboys, could bring valuable experience as the Lions gear up for the 2024 NFL Playoffs.

Could Elliott’s Experience Elevate Detroit’s Backfield?

David Montgomery, the Lions’ top running back, has been sidelined since December 15 with an MCL sprain in his right knee. While he is expected to return for the divisional playoff round, his absence has hindered Detroit’s offensive rhythm. Rookie standout Jahmyr Gibbs has stepped up, but the Lions’ dynamic “Sonic and Knuckles” rushing attack has been incomplete.

Mark Powell of FanSided suggests Elliott would be an ideal depth piece behind Gibbs, offering the Lions a reliable option with Montgomery’s status still in question. Powell proposes that Elliott could start on the practice squad as a cost-effective emergency player, ready to contribute if necessary.

An X-Factor for a Super Bowl Push

Taylyn Hadley of Bleacher Report agrees, naming Elliott as a strong fit for Detroit. Hadley highlights Elliott’s extensive playoff experience, which could prove invaluable for the Lions, who are emerging as serious Super Bowl contenders. With Montgomery’s availability uncertain, Elliott’s drive to secure a championship aligns perfectly with Detroit’s postseason aspirations.
