UCLA women’s basketball is hitting its stride at the right time, demonstrating the toughness that coach Cori Close has been demanding. Their recent 67-65 win over Iowa on the road showcased their ability to grind out victories, particularly on the defensive end.

Since their only loss of the season to USC on Feb. 13, the Bruins have responded with a strong three-game winning streak, including victories over ranked opponents, which has helped propel them to No. 2 in the AP Poll. This momentum is crucial as they prepare for their final regular-season road test against Wisconsin before heading home for a highly anticipated rematch against USC.

While the Bruins should be heavily favored against a struggling Wisconsin team (13-14, 4-12 Big Ten), this game is an opportunity to further solidify their identity before entering the postseason. It’s also a chance to avoid a letdown game, as their focus could easily drift to the rematch with USC and the upcoming conference tournament.

At this point in the season, maintaining consistency, defensive intensity, and overall team chemistry will be key. The battle for the No. 1 ranking remains competitive, with Texas currently holding the top spot after an 11-game winning streak that includes four wins over ranked teams. If UCLA continues to win and Texas falters, the Bruins could be in position to reclaim the top ranking heading into March Madness.

Ultimately, UCLA’s ability to stay locked in against Wisconsin and then bring maximum effort against USC will be a telling sign of their championship potential.
