Why the Dallas Wings Should Target Kelsey Mitchell to Support Paige Bueckers in Free Agency

The Dallas Wings have a golden opportunity this offseason — use free agency to strengthen their roster and give Paige Bueckers, the reigning Rookie of the Year, the support she needs. One name that stands out is Kelsey Mitchell, the high-scoring guard from the Indiana Fever.

According to The Athletic, Mitchell is a top potential target for Dallas. “Mitchell had her best individual season and capped it with an outstanding postseason in her first extended playoff run,” the outlet reported, praising her ability to score in isolation and her improved defense under coach Stephanie White.

If Mitchell explores free agency, she’d be an ideal fit next to Bueckers. The 2018 No. 2 overall pick averaged over 20 points per game in 2025, carrying the Fever deep into the playoffs while Caitlin Clark was sidelined with injury. Her quickness, shot creation, and veteran poise would perfectly complement Bueckers’ all-around playmaking.

The Wings may face a competitive market for Mitchell’s signature — including a possible return to Indiana — but they can’t afford to miss the chance. With Arike Ogunbowale potentially testing free agency, Mitchell could step in as both a scorer and leader.

Free agency opens in January, giving Dallas time to map out its plan. But one thing is clear: if the Wings want to take the next step and become true contenders, signing Kelsey Mitchell should be at the top of the

ir list.
