Sheffield Steelkings and Sheffield Mencap and Gateway ice hockey clubs could win big with prize money from York Racecourse and Sky Bet (part of Flutter Entertainment) in the Sky Bet Ebor Association draw in York on Saturday 24 August. They are one of 22 charities, foundations and community groups selected from 150 entries.
They will now be paired with horses in the race, with the winner earning £20,000, second place £5,000, third place £2,000 and the remaining 19 in the field £1,000. Twenty-two hopefuls will have their wishes heard in a live draw on Thursday 22 August. Last year, advocacy group Sheffield Voices received £20,000 when Frankie Dettori won Absurd. James Brennan, Head of Marketing and Sponsorship at York Racecourse, said: “Each year we see many valuable entries into the draw. Choosing the 22 contestants from this extensive shortlist was not easy, but the finalists come from a variety of local charities.
“The Sky Bet Ebor Festival is a key event in our racing calendar and this planning is an important part of the process. We always look forward to being nominated and showcasing their great work.”Michael Shinners, Head of Sports PR at Sky Betting & Gaming, added: “It’s great to see so many entries for such a worthy cause in Yorkshire. The selection process is always difficult because there are so many reasons to choose. “We look forward to the live draw on Thursday 22nd August where all nominated charities will decide which horse they will represent on race day. “We wish all the charities a wonderful day and hope that a donation of at least £1,000 will go a long way towards supporting the fantastic work they do.”
