After the Los Angeles Rams’ tough Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions, head coach Sean McVay delivered a candid and determined response in his post-game remarks.
McVay was blunt about the team’s performance, noting that it fell short of their high expectations. “We need to critically evaluate what went wrong,” McVay stated. “This defeat came down to missed opportunities and critical mistakes. Our execution in crucial moments was lacking, and that’s an area we must address immediately.”
He identified key issues on both sides of the ball: the offense struggled to sustain drives, and the defense had difficulty containing the Lions’ key players, leading to pivotal scoring plays by Detroit.
While McVay acknowledged the Lions’ strong performance, he emphasized that the focus should remain on the Rams’ own errors rather than on their opponents’ success. “The Lions played well and took advantage of our mistakes, but we can’t use that as an excuse. We need to improve. We have to make the necessary adjustments and be more competitive in our next game.”
